BETA PHASE

After completing the basic setup of your UPS Global Checkout app, you can customize various settings to improve your customers' checkout experience and clearly communicate international shipping costs.

Shopify Plus users have access to additional advanced customization features. See our Shopify extensibility guide for enhanced breakdown options and discount integration.

For custom rate sheets:

  1. Navigate to SettingsRate ManagementAdd flat rate

Once you save your flat rate(s), they will appear in a Rates table at the top of your settings page for visibility and modification.

Checkout display customizations

Configure display settings via custom regions to control how duty and tax information appears to your customers. Access these settings by going to the UPS Global Checkout app in your Shopify admin.

Regions

Regions allow you to customize checkout settings for different countries or groups of countries. You can configure unique display options, breakdown formats, and messaging for specific markets while maintaining global defaults for all other locations. Select the region that your changes should apply to. By default, settings apply to the Global region (all countries not assigned to a custom region).

You can:

  • Use the Region dropdown to view and select existing regions
  • Click Create custom region to create a new region with specific countries. Custom region settings will override global settings for the specified countries
  • Edit existing regions using the pencil icon next to each region name

Checkout preview

This section shows what customers will see at checkout based on your selected Region. The Preview updates in real-time as you modify the settings, displaying a sample shipping method with duty and tax information as it would appear during checkout.

Shipping method display customization

Append text to the end of each shipping method name that appears in the checkout. For example, you can add "Duty and tax included" to clearly communicate that customers won't pay additional fees at delivery.

To append text to your shipping method, simply enter the text you want to appear at the end of shipping method names. This text will be added to all shipping methods in your selected region and helps customers understand what to expect.

Configure pricing breakdown

Customize the breakdown that displays with shipping methods. You can choose between:

Default breakdown (most common):

The standard display shows shipping, taxes, and combined duties & fees:

$25.00 Shipping, $33.13 taxes, and $7.50 duties

  • Fees are included in the duties amount
  • Uses the most common format customers expect

Custom breakdown:

Create your own breakdown format using template variables. For example:

{{shipping}} Shipping, {{taxes}} Taxes, {{duties}} Duties, + {{fees}} Fees

When using the custom option, enter your desired format in the text field. You can use the following variables:

  • {{shipping}} - Displays the shipping amount
  • {{taxes}} - Displays the tax amount
  • {{duties}} - Displays the duty amount
  • {{fees}} - Displays the fees amount

Be sure to use preview to confirm that your breakdown appears as expected.

Once you've completed your shipping method and pricing breakdown display changes, click Save changes.
