What to expect
Once you have installed and configured the app, you can expect to:
- Display international shipping costs: Show customers real-time UPS rates with duties, taxes, and fees included during checkout.
- Provide landed cost transparency: Show all duties, taxes, and fees upfront so customers see the complete landed cost before they buy, with no surprise costs at delivery.
- Create UPS labels in BigCommerce: Generate shipping labels and commercial invoices directly from your order page.
- Maintain existing workflows: Continue using your current BigCommerce processes while adding international capabilities.
Installation and setup process
Follow these steps to install and configure your app:
Install the UPS Global Checkout app
- Go to the BigCommerce App Marketplace
- Search for "UPS Global Checkout"
- Click Install and follow the prompts to grant the app access to your store
Connect your UPS account
After installing, you'll land on the app's setup screen.
- Enter your UPS Shipper Number
- Click Verify Account
- Log in with your UPS credentials in the window that opens to complete the connection
When the connection succeeds, your popup will close, and you'll see a notification in the app's main page stating your account is active.
If you don't have a UPS Global Checkout account yet, use the Register link on the connect screen to request access from UPS.
Set up your shipping zones
UPS Global Checkout returns rates only for supported destination countries. Give those countries their own shipping zone so UPS Global Checkout quotes them, then use a Rest of the world zone with a different shipping service to keep serving every other market.
Create a supported-country zone
- In your BigCommerce control panel, go to Settings → Shipping
- In the top right corner of the shipping zone card, select Add shipping zone, then select Add a custom zone
- Name the zone, select Selection of countries, and add each supported destination country
- Select Submit
Enable UPS Global Checkout for that zone
- Select Edit on your supported-country zone
- Under Real-time shipping quotes, toggle on UPS Global Checkout
- Toggle off any other international shipping services in this zone
- Select Done
Set up a Rest of the world zone
- Select Add shipping zone → Add the rest of the world. If this zone already exists, edit the existing zone instead
- Enable or connect the shipping service that will cover unsupported destinations
- Leave UPS Global Checkout toggled off in this zone
- Select Done
Test your integration
To verify your setup works correctly:
- Add item(s) to your cart: We recommend using a higher value (above the de minimis) to ensure that duties and taxes will be due for the order
- Proceed to checkout
- Add an international address: You will need to use a real address or you will not get quotes back
- Continue to the shipping step
- If set up correctly, you will see UPS quotes (including duties and taxes) in the shipping methods offered
Next steps
Once your basic setup is complete, configure your rate management, shipping buffers, and service levels in the Settings guide, and learn how to fulfill orders in the Print labels guide.
