UPS Global Checkout Shopify App

Get step-by-step instructions on how to install and configure the UPS Global Checkout app for Shopify.

The UPS Global Checkout Shopify app provides transparent, guaranteed duty and tax costs upfront during checkout. Your customers see all import costs before completing their purchase, eliminating surprise fees at delivery and reducing cart abandonment.

What to expect

Once you have installed and configured the UPS Global Checkout Shopify app, you can expect to:

  • Display transparent international shipping costs: Show customers real-time UPS rates with guaranteed duties, taxes, and fees during checkout.
  • Reduce cart abandonment: Eliminate surprise costs at delivery by providing upfront landed cost calculations.
  • Simplify international operations: Automatically handle complex international shipping scenarios with minimal setup.
  • Maintain existing workflows: Continue using your current Shopify processes while adding international capabilities.

Installation and setup process

Follow these steps to install and configure your app:

1

Install the UPS Global Checkout app

  1. Go to the Shopify App Store
  2. Search for "UPS Global Checkout"
  3. Click Install and follow the installation prompts
2

Connect your UPS account

Once the app has been installed, you will be automatically taken to the UPS Global Checkout settings page.

  1. Enter your UPS Shipper Number
  2. Click Verify Account

If your shipper number is not authorized for Global Checkout, you'll see the error: "Your shipper number is not authorized for global checkout." Contact UPS customer service to enable Global Checkout for your account.

3

Confirm shipping configuration & review carrier rates

To start receiving international orders through UPS Global Checkout:

Ensure Quote ID mapping: The Quote ID generated during checkout must be properly mapped to your shipping platform. This ensures that when orders flow from Shopify to your shipping system, the correct UPS rates and landed cost guarantees are maintained during label creation. Without proper mapping, orders may not process correctly. Review market rates: Once live, UPS Global Checkout rates will appear in all markets. Check your existing rates to avoid duplicates.

After completing these steps, click Mapping completed, ready to go live or select I'll do this later to pause until you're ready.

If you choose to do this later, you'll see an Action Required banner in the top of your settings until you complete the setup and click Mapping completed, ready to go live.

4

Configure checkout settings (optional)

Once set up, you can optionally modify your checkout settings:

  • Rate management: UPS Global Checkout rates are used by default. You can also add custom flat rates for additional flexibility.
  • Checkout display settings: Customize shipping method names with additional text like "Duty & Tax Included" based on customer region.
  • Extensibility settings: Shopify Plus users can further customize how duty and tax information displays within shipping methods.

5

Test your integration

To verify your setup works correctly:

  1. Add item(s) to your cart: We recommend using a higher value (above the de minimis) to ensure that duties and taxes will be due for the order
  2. Click Checkout
  3. Add an international address to your checkout: You will need to use a real address or you will not get quotes back
  4. Click Continue to shipping.
  5. If set up correctly, you will see UPS quotes (including duties and taxes) in your shipping methods offered.

Next steps

Once your basic setup is complete, you can customize your shipping display options, language settings, and packaging preferences in the App Settings or Shopify extensibility guides, depending on your Shopify plan.
