CRITICAL: Quote ID required
The Quote ID must be passed when creating your UPS label. Without it:
- Duties and taxes get charged to YOUR UPS account (not prepaid by the customer)
- The guarantee is removed
- Your label won't show the critical "P/P TPR" billing term
- Customers may face unexpected fees at delivery
This is the #1 cause of validation issues. You must set up Quote ID mapping in your shipping platform before processing international orders.

What happens during validation
When you create a shipping label, UPS checks that your shipment matches the checkout quote:
- Quote ID is present - Must be passed your ecommerce platform → shipping platform → UPS label
- Products match - Same items and SKUs as checkout
- Quantities match - Same or fewer items than quoted (can't add or increase)
- Destination matches - Same country and state/province
- Values match - Same item prices and currency
If everything matches: Customer's guaranteed price stays locked in, and they prepaid the duties/taxes.
If something doesn't match: Label still creates, but guarantee is removed and duties/taxes bill to your account.
Keeping validation successful
1. Configure Quote ID mapping
This solves 90% of validation issues:
- Set up your shipping platform to receive Quote IDs from your ecommerce platform
- Verify Quote IDs appear in orders before creating labels
- Test with one international order before going live
2. Don't change orders after checkout
- Don't add or remove items
- Don't increase quantities
- Don't change the shipping address
If you must modify an order, get a new quote from your ecommerce platform first.
3. Check for "P/P TPR" on labels
- This billing term confirms the guarantee is active. If it's missing, the Quote ID wasn't passed correctly.
Note: If validation fails for any reason, the API response will include an alert message stating "Global Checkout guarantee not applied". In this case, the order will not be guaranteed.

Label setup
Pass the Quote ID from checkout to shipping to maintain guaranteed landed costs.
When customers check out with UPS Global Checkout, they see a guaranteed price that includes shipping, duties, and taxes. To keep this guarantee active when you create the shipping label, you must pass the Quote ID from your ecommerce platform to your shipping platform.
